about

Mena Safwat is a visual and intermedia artist based in Cairo, originally from Minia, Upper Egypt. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in scenography in 2018. Growing up in Minia—home to layers of ancient Egyptian history—has had a lasting influence on his way of seeing and understanding space, time, and image-making.
Safwat’s practice spans traditional and digital painting, performance, video, projection mapping, and immersive media. He approaches these media as interconnected rather than separate, using them to explore the traces of time, shifting states of consciousness, and the emotional relationship between the self and the surrounding world. His work often reflects a sense of transition and transformation, capturing moments where perception feels unstable or in flux.
His work has been presented in exhibitions and new media events in Egypt, Germany, and Italy, and continues to evolve through experimentation, research, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
